The PharmGradWishList team has been absolutely FLOORED by the support of the pharmacy community.
We need to give special recognition to the pharmacists who have selflessly donated money to fund FULL residency scholarships. Dr. Larry Buie appears to have started a trend. Once others in the oncology pharmacy community heard about his generous donation, a few others were also able to contribute - Drs. Kamakshi Rao, Shannon Hough, and Amber Lawson. These four pharmacists are giants in the oncology world and we are so humbled by their support.
With a healthy competition between specialties beginning, emergency medicine pharmacist Dr. Jimmy Pruitt III (@PharmDintheED) entered the race to fund scholarships by donating an entire scholarship on behalf of his educational endeavors The Pharm So Hard Podcast and Pharmacy Acute Care University (PACU).
The true winners are our scholarship recipients!
Larry Buie, PharmD, BCOP, FASHP, FCCP is the current President of the Hematology Oncology Pharmacy Association (HOPA), Manager of Clinical Pharmacy Practice for BMT and Lymphoma as well as the PGY2 Oncology Pharmacy Residency Director at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC).
Kamakshi Rao, PharmD, BCOP, FASHP is the Assistant Director of Pharmacy, Academic Enterprises and Research Programs at UNC Health Care. Fun fact, Dr. Rao served as Dr. Buie's preceptor for both his PGY1 and PGY2 in Oncology at UNC. As she stated with regard to Dr. Buie's donation being a motivator - the mentor becomes the mentee!
Dr. Amber Lawson, PharmD, BCOP is an Associate Adjunct Professor at the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy and serves on the Board of Directors of the Hematology Oncology Pharmacy Association (HOPA) as Secretary. She also serves as the Program Coordinator for Hematology/Oncology Pharmacy Services at UK HealthCare.
Dr. Shannon Hough, PharmD, BCOP is a Director of ClinReview and Clinical Content at McKesson and The US Oncology Network. She previously served as the Pharmacy Manager for Oncology Clinical Programs at the University of Michigan and is an active member and leader within HOPA.
Jimmy L. Pruitt III, PharmD, BCPS, BCCCP is an Emergency Medicine Clinical Pharmacy Specialist at Medical University of South Carolina and a Clinical Pharmacist at Grady Health System. He is also the Founder, Webmaster, and Host of The Pharm So Hard Podcast and Pharmacy Acute Care University (PACU). Stay tuned for more info on these awesome resources in our next blog post!
